The BNKR APP is an AR (augmented reality) on site - experience designed to augment a large-scale mural located at Hammerschmidt in Munich-Riem, Germany. The mural created by the German artist Clemens Behr is a 700 square meter abstract outdoor painting. The AR installation designed by Selam X, a Berlin based design studio, is a large-scale AR experience that creates a virtual overlay on top of the physical mural, creating a rich and interactive experience for the users of the BNKR APP. The application recognizes patterns on the mural and turns these patterns into animated, abstract 3D shapes, transforming the physical two-dimensional painting into a highly spatial experience. This transformation invites the users for an exploration of the virtual installation. The application also offers the opportunity to capture the experience by the means of screenshots. The collaboration and the artworks were curated by Lukas Feireiss for BNKR Munich (www.bnkr.space) and Euroboden GmbH (www.euroboden.de).

BNKR is an exhibition space dedicated to the latest tendencies of contemporary art and architecture residing in an aboveground bunker under heritage protection in Munich / Nord-Schwabing. BNKR was founded in 2014 by Munich entrepreneur Stefan F. Höglmaier (Euroboden GmbH) to enhance his long-term engagement for cultural projects by creating a multidisciplinary platform that furthers exchange and dialogue. Under the guidance of Nina Pettinato, artist and director of BNKR, a curator is annually selected to realize exhibitions and an accompanying program encouraging the dialogue between art, architecture and other disciplines such as design, science, philosophy and music.

The Hammerschmidt is an urban workplace in the country – a vertical city of raw concrete. Built for companies with visions and urban pioneers, closely to the city border of Munich.

Euroboden understands architecture as built culture. Since its founding in 1999, the owner-managed company has established itself as one of the leading developers of urban and architecturally sophisticated real estate in the German-speaking world. Euroboden designs the social and architectural vision of each project in close dialogue with renowned architects."
